I grew up attending a church where we didn't use instrumental music during
worship. Because of this, the singing was always very beautiful. Our voices were
the instruments. One of my all-time favorite hymns has always been "O, Sacred
Head." I've always thought that the music was incredible, and that the harmonies
were absolutely beautiful. However, I never really thought much about the words
that I was singing. It's still a beautiful song with a beautiful melody and
harmony. But today it's my favorite hymn because of the words and what they mean
to me. We decided to add "My Jesus, I Love thee" because it's another one of my
favorites. The words also have new meaning for me. I'm not ashamed to tell
anyone about Jesus, or the authentic love that I feel for Him. I know that I
kind-of "went out on a limb" here by singing this acapella, but I'm pretty
pleased with the way that it turned out. And I think the overall arrangement is
really something special. I think Gary did a spectacular job! I hope you enjoy
it!
O sacred head now wounded
With grief and shame weighed down,
Now scornfully surrounded
With thorns thine only crown.
How art thou pale with anguish,
With sore abuse and scorn?
How does that visage languish,
Which once was bright as morn?
What language shall I borrow
To thank thee, dearest friend?
For this, thy dying sorrow
Thy pity without end.
Oh, make me thine forever
And should I fainting be.
Lord, let me never, never
Outlive my love to Thee.
My Jesus I love Thee
I know thou art mine.
For Thee, all the follies of sin, I resign.
My gracious Redeemer, my Savior art thou,
If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus tis now.
